Achtung! Don't mention the, er, rower?

Scandal hit the Regatta when German crew Crefelder Ruderclub were disqualified for fielding an ineligible competitor against the City of Oxford.

The German eight beat their English counterparts by two-and-a-half lengths but were thrown out after it was unveiled their crew possessed a World under-23 Championship medal winner.

It is a crime that Clefelder were allowed to row especially when the HRR press office issued a release speceficaly about their great bow man!

Another legitimate crew that has spent a years training in all conditions just to get the opportunity to ro at HRR was sent home from qualifiers dejected all because the Stewards blatantly turned a blind eye to this seeded crew!

City of Oxford did complete in the third fastest time of the day although they had lost by 2 lengths to the Krauts.

Guess they deserve the spot?

HRR Inside Lines issued 02JUL08
QUOTE
Crews to watch

Thames Challenge Cup: The first round of the Thames Challenge Cup gives spectators a chance to see the selected foreign crews in action. Moritz Koch, the bowman of the Crefelder crew from Germany, competed at the 2007 European Championships and the 2007 U23 World Championships in the lightweight double sculls, while several other crew members are also ex-U23s. They race City of Oxford at noon.

Poor show Mike Sweeney & the Management Committee
It is totally unacceptable that the Crefelder entry was either submitted OR accepted in the first place if at the time it was known that the crew consisted of an U23 World Champion
City of Oxford live to fight another day, however!
